Layer Hide Others ( Drawing Editor )

Tool summary :

  • Hides all layers but the active layer. The active layer is the layer that is selected on the layer selection tool .
  • Xxx Add tools write to the active layer. Xxx Edit and Xxx Edit All and Xxx Erase and Xxx Erase All and Copy ( Ctrl + c ) and Cut ( Ctrl + x ) act on shown layers, not just the active layer. Hiding all layers but the active layer makes those tools act only on the active layer.
  • For example, to change only the labels on your selected drawing layer, you could use Layer Hide Others , then Label Edit All .
  • Hidden layers are layers that are set to " Show " on the Edit Layers window.
  • The hidden/shown state of layers is retained when you Save ( Ctrl + s ) a drawing. This means that some layers may be hidden when you Open ( Ctrl + o ) a drawing.
  • Plotting does not print hidden layers. What you see in the drawing in the Drawing Editor is what you see on the printed drawing.
  • See the step-by-step instructions .

   Step-by-step instructions :

Layer Hide Others can be used in the Drawing Editor to hide all layers except the layer that is selected on your layer selection tool .

1 . Before using this tool:

1a : On the layer selection tool , select the layer that you want to be shown while all other layers are hidden. It does not matter if the selected layer is currently shown or not shown.

2 . Invoke Layer Hide Others using any one (1) of the following methods:

Method 1 : Click the Layer Hide Others icon. The icon can be taken from the group named ' Objects -- Layers ' and placed on a toolbar (classic) or the ribbon (lightning).

Method 2 : If " Drawing Editor layout style " is ' Classic ', you can use the menu system to choose Objects > Layers > Hide Others .

Method 3, 4 or 5 : Layer Hide Others can also be invoked using a keyboard shortcut , the context menu , or a mode . For the ' Lightning ' layout style, configuration of the interface is done using Customize Interface .

Method 6 : With Layers Mode mouse bindings active, hold down the Ctrl key and right-click ( Hide Others ).

3 . Layer Hide Others hides all layers except the layer that is currently selected on the layer selection tool . This means that all objects on the newly hidden layers disappear. If the layer that is currently selected was hidden before this operation began, it is now shown.

Note: At this point you can still undo your changes by using Revert or Undo . If you Save to make your changes permanent, you can no longer Revert , but you can still Undo .
